Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Things change, projects and people evolve in unexpected ways, and chances are, five years ago, you had no idea where you'd be right now.

I get it.

In June 2011, I was preparing to leave my hometown, Brussels, and move across the Atlantic. I was heading to Providence, the capital of the smallest state in the US, to start a masters degree in Interior Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Fast forward 5 years and I'm now the proud founder of Avandi, a studio where I happily cross the boundaries between, furniture, spatial, jewelry, lighting and product design. My work's been exhibited in Milan, Paris, Brussels, New York, Miami, London and Rotterdam. I've met the most incredible people and learned a ton in the process. It hasn't been easy - actually it's been really tough - but looking back, it was all worth it.

Now I'm wondering... what are the next five years going to be like?

You can make projects all you want, things are gonna go unplanned.

I've learned this the hard way, and have incorporated it in my process and in the pieces I produce. Because making a home for yourself shouldn't add any stress to your already busy life! [But what if I move / meet someone / have kids / or just host a party?!]

I design for you if you need flexibility.

If you don't know what tomorrow is going to bring and actually embrace that fact. Whether you throw impromptu parties, or recently moved across the globe. Whether your adventures happen at the end of your street, or miles away. I got you if you bring treasures back from your explorations, but also hold on to that box your grandfather gave you. If you curate your space like you curate your life, conscious and selective of what you bring into it.

You might not know what tomorrow will bring... but what's the fun in that? When I encountered the design collective Join two years ago, I didn't realize what an awesome group of designers I'd soon be a part of! If you haven't seen them on my Instagram - or even if you have - check out pictures of our latest show, Reflect.

You just have to trust the process and trust that good things are going to happen from whatever decision you make, and whatever route you take.
